Problem:‍

SACCOs are the next frontier of deepening financial inclusion in Kenya, yet face limited capacity to design and implement innovative financial products that respond to emerging climate finance opportunities and evolving member needs, particularly within diaspora-linked savings and investment markets.

Solution/Outcome:‍

We conducted institutional assessments and capacity-building planning and technical assistance in product innovation, training, and pilot monitoring for leading SACCOs in Kenya. Using Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles, we developed tailored tools, templates, and advisory approaches aligned to specific institutional needs. We also supported the design of new climate-focused deposit and loan products targeting diaspora clients across three SACCOs.

The engagement strengthened SACCO capacity for product innovation and implementation, resulting in the development of new climate finance-linked savings and lending products. It also improved institutional readiness for structured product development, pilot testing, and impact-oriented financial service delivery.
